Roger Christian, writing on Facebook, has shared that his dear friend Robert Watts has passed away.
Watts was born on May 23rd 1938 and was best known for his involvement with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones film series. In fact, he attended the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in London last summer.
Watts was employed by producer Gary Kurtz as production supervisor on Star Wars. Watts enjoyed a long collaboration with George Lucas and Lucasfilm, working as associate producer on The Empire Strikes Back and co-producer on Return of the Jedi; and as associate producer on Raiders of the Lost Ark and producer on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
This is what Roger Christian had to say on Facebook…
I’ve just heard news that my dear friend Robert Watts has passed. Robert was one of the 5 people who really stood by George and our tiny art department to get Star Wars made. Robert was very spiritual and we became more than friends. I interviewed him for my documentary Galaxy built on hope and valued greatly his insight. I will miss him
Watts was responsible for suggested his half brother Jeremy Bulloch come in to audition for the role of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back.
He was loved and respected by all those that met him and it was great to speak to him again briefly at the Indiana Jones premiere last year, he will be missed.
We send our condolences to his family and friends, may his memory be for a blessing.
