According to sources at LRM Online and Star Wars Unity, Lucasfilm is considering developing a new Disney+ series featuring actress Gina Carano’s ex-Shocktrooper character Cara Dune who was first introduced to viewers in Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
From LRM Online:
We don’t have any details about what the show would be about. My personal guess would be a prequel series to when we are introduced to Cara in The Mandalorian. This would be very similar to what Lucasfilm is already doing with the Cassian Andor series. Cara’s backstory is that she was a human female Alderaanian. Cara served as a shock trooper in the Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. This could allow Gina Carano to tell Cara’s origin story, and how she came to be the person she is.
Star Wars Unity doubles down on this rumor with the following:
I can back up their report as I heard about a month or two ago that such a series came under consideration during the filming of The Mandalorian Season 2 after Gina Carano and one of the new cast members really hit it off. Discussions then began about the possibility of spinning Cara Dune off into her own show.
With Disney turning their main focus to developing new content for their Disney+ streaming platform, we can expect to hear rumors/reports about several new Star Wars projects in foreseeable future. Take this information with as much salt as needed until we are given reason to think otherwise from an official Disney/Lucasfilm source.
