While the community continues to mourn the loss of actress Carrie Fisher, we can’t help but direct even a small bit of our attention towards how this tragic death will affect future Star Wars films. Back in July we received official word that filming for director Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII had wrapped. Filming for 2019’s Episode IX has yet to begin, so obviously Lucasfilm will have the time necessary to adjust the film’s script as needed to accommodate the loss of Fisher. In regards to Episode VIII set to arrive in theaters next year, word has it that Fisher’s General Leia will have a larger role than she did in The Force Awakens.
The quoted text below also mentions that Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd will be returning as Lieutenant Connix in Episode VIII, which was already reported on earlier.
For Episode VIII, Leia had a larger role, we’re told, and her daughter, Billie Lourd also is in that film as well as in Force Awakens. How Lucasfilm will deal with the loss of one of the most beloved female characters in any franchise is not known, however, and the company is remaining mum.
