As Star Wars: The Old Republic gets closer to becoming free-to-play, the Public Test Server has been given access to the new Cartel Market. This is where gamers who have earned Cartel coins can spend them for exclusive items in game.
The folks over at SWTOR Strategies have posted a sneak peak into the Cartel Market so we can see what to expect! The screencaps show some of the items available to buy. There appears to be lots of armor sets and clothing pieces with mod slots so you can customize your look and your stats. There are also helpful items to aid you during quests, such as consumable Quick Travel and XP boosts. Having an XP boost available in the store is a great idea and will allow players with alternative characters to level up faster and get further into the story. Some of these items appear to have time limits as well as not being able to stack with others currently in use or equipped. This kind of store and item use, especially for consumables or boosts, is common in MMO’s and has worked well for other F2P models. Exclusive Cartel Market crystals are available to buy, giving players a chance to have unique ones not available to others who do not have the currency. The article at SWTOR Strategies contains a brief run down of various items available, and there is something for everyone – even pets!
If you are currently subscribed to SWTOR or have been in the past, you can log on to the website to see how many Cartel coins you could receive as a result of your previous subscribed months. These coins will be given to you if you are actively subscribed when the free-to-play option goes live. Once F2P has launched, the Cartel coins can be purchased with real money.
