The Sunday Times: Carrie Fisher’s Death Causes Dilemma For ‘Star Wars’

Yesterday The Sunday Times ran a couple of stories relating to Star Wars: The Last Jedi — the first of which was an interview with Mark Hamill, and the second discusses the dilemma that the death of Carrie Fisher causes….

What is the point of actors these days? All they do is suck budget from a film, then wait around for a sexual assault claim from sometime in the early 1990s to surface. Kevin Spacey, for instance, had finished shooting his part as J Paul Getty in Ridley Scott’s imminent All the Money in the World when his house of cards collapsed under serious allegations, and Scott duly ditched him for Christopher Plummer. Scene by scene, via reshoot and trickery, Plummer has become Getty, with Spacey’s involvement dismissed as a bad dream.

Which makes one think. Is technology now so advanced that a performance is just a shape to be cut out and filled in again if needs be?
