    Welcome to our new weekly look back at the highlights of the news from the past week – from the irrelevant, to the best of fan content / media, the latest official news, rumours and reviews…

    MONDAY 3RD MARCH 2014

    NEWS: A Trip Into The Slice

    The week started with the Oscars, and the revelation that Harrison Ford enjoys the occasional Pizza pie. It also gave our own Mark Newbold the opportunity to get a joke in for the most ardent of EU fans – you’ve been warned!

    NEWS: Episode VII at the Oscars

    Filming has not even begun but already Star Wars Episode VII was the talk of the red carpet on Oscar night. During an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Zak Efron teased that even he did not know if he would be in the new film. Hmmm, add one more to the many eagerly awaiting the imminent casting announcements.

    NEWS: Marquand Movie To Be Revived

    Return of the Jedi director Richard Marquand abandoned a quirky Western movie to be set in Wales to take his Star Wars role – now his son James is trying to revive the project referred to as the Welsh version of True Grit. I can’t help but back this concept, it sounds surreal but could just find that cult following…

    TUESDAY 4TH MARCH 2014

    RUMOUR: Star Wars Goes Digital

    Word reached us this week that all six Star Wars saga films are planned for a Digital release in November this year. No details were given on whether this would be on a service like Netflix or as a download on iTunes etc, but if the rumour is proved right we will finally have a digitally available Star Wars franchise in time for the Episode VII promotion – coincidence, I think not.

    REVIEW: Empire & Rebellion: Honour Among Thieves

    Mark reviewed the latest Star Wars novel to hit the bookshelf’s, the eagerly awaited, Han Solo centric novel. Does it live up to expectations’? Check the review after the link – but be warned, there are spoilers…

    RUMOUR: The Rumoured Cast of Episode VII

    Mark brings his latest blog for the UK’s Metro newspaper explored the possibilities of Adam Driver, Gary Oldman, and Benedict Cumberbatch making the cast of Episode VII. An interesting reflection on the latest rumours doing the rounds.

    NEWS: New Behind The Scenes Book From Art Director Roger Christian

    I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Roger Christian this week, and was delighted to hear about a book project he is working on bringing us back to the initial design of Star Wars Episode IV – Cinema Alchemist.

    NEWS: Star Wars on Netflix

    A little something called Star Wars The Clone Wars saw it’s final episodes drop on Netflix in the US and Canada. We were not jealous at all on this side of the Whale pond…!

    Cardiff has become the spiritual home of UK Sci-Fi in recent years, our own Matt Booker took us for a tour of the latest Film & Comic Con.

    THE WEEKS BEST PODCASTS

    Full of Sith returned with an interview with Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (Collectively known as James S.A. Corey ) – authors of the new Empire and Rebellion: Honour Among Thieves. I can’t wait to pick up and read this book.

    The latest Fangirls Going Rogue covers the controversy of the character rollout of the Star Wars Rebels and toy reveals – and the message it sent out to female fans. A fascinating listen, for all fans regardless of gender.

    Our own Mark Newbold and James Burns bring us the latest edition of Radio 1138, with interviews with Official Star Wars Fact Files writer Iain Lowson, and Star Wars Insider chief Jonathan Wilkins.

With a collection extending into the tens of thousands, he is obsessed by variants, and the more obscure a publication the better! Brian was the Literature Editor for Jedi News, and was also host of the podcast Take Cover on the Jedi News Network. He stepped down from Jedi News in August 2017 citing personal reasons. Two months later, he was part of the team that launched Fantha Tracks.
