Thomas Staggs Out As Disney Chief Operating Officer

We’ve learned via an article posted on Variety that Disney cheif operating officer Thomas Staggs has been relieved of his duties [UPDATE: He will be stepping down in May] under that title.

The move is considered quite surprising given that a report in February of last year had pegged Staggs as Bob Iger’s potential successor as CEO of the company.

Thomas Staggs is out as Disney’s chief operating officer after a little more than one year in the post. The departure stunned the entertainment biz on Monday and throws wide open the race to succeed Bob Iger when he steps down in two years as chairman and CEO.
