Thought Bubble Festival 2012

Here’s all the information you need for this years Thought Bubble Festival, taking place in Leeds next month.

This year’s Thought Bubble Festival in Leeds is now only two weeks away! From 11th – 18th November, in association with Leeds International Film Festival, the largest celebration of comics and animation in the UK will take over Yorkshire – a celebration of sequential art in all its forms, including everything from superhero comics to independent and small-press artists and writers.

Special guests attending as part of this year’s festival programme will include Frederik Peeters (Sand Castles), David Aja (Hawkeye), Pia Guerra (Y the Last Man), Fiona Staples (Saga), and Yanick Paquette (Swamp Thing) with a full line-up of almost 100 top-name comics creators, and hundreds of independent exhibitors and retailers! As part of this year’s Thought Bubble Festival, we are delighted to present a special exhibition curated by Olly Moss on behalf of Mondo – the Texan art-house and film poster specialist. This free exhibition will be the first of its kind in the UK and will take place from 17th November – 2nd December 2012 (with a charity launch night on 16th November from 7pm) in the recently opened White Cloth Gallery – an exhibition space which is devoted to film and photography – the first of its kind in the North of England.

The wider festival programme for this year’s Thought Bubble will feature free art and writing based workshops for young people and adults, a two day academic conference, talks and masterclasses lead by industry professionals, and a programme of sequential art related film screenings, all building up to a special two day convention on 17th & 18th November. The Thought Bubble convention includes an incredible line-up of leading artists and writers, and over 300 tables showcasing the best sequential art has to offer. The weekend will also feature portfolio viewings and competitions, as well as a huge cosplay parade.

Tickets for the convention can be bought online at this page, with special discounts for cosplayers, and under-12s entering the venue for free with an accompanying ticket holding parent/guardian. Further special guests include Jason Aaron (Scalped, Wolverine and the X-Men), Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera (Daredevil), and Beck Cloonan (Conan) – with many more big names attending a UK show for the first time ever.

A number of events at this year’s festival have a limited capacity, and spaces on these fantastic workshops, talks, and live performances are filling up fast, so book soon to avoid disappointment. A summary of events requiring prior booking can be found on the Thought Bubble Blog.
