Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge Part II Coming to Oculus Quest Later This Year

Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge arrived in November 2020 exclusively for Oculus Quest, and during yesterday’s Oculus Gaming Showcase, ILMxLAB has teased the first details of part II that will come to the platform later this year.

And by teased VRFocus means a very brief glance at what’s to come, with ILMxLAB unveiling the first character and a single piece of concept art. The first character you get to meet from Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge: Part 2 is a mysterious Ithorian called Dok-Ondar, a visitor from the Den of Antiquities. The artwork art features Dok-Ondar in Seezelslak’s Cantina with his translation droid.

Just as Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge is based on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge themed area in Disneyland, California and Disney World, Florida, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities can be physically found at Disneyland where guests can purchase Star Wars memorabilia.

Quite what his role will be in Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge remains unclear. While he could offer trading possibilities that may not be the case as he’s not in his shop. The fact he’s in the cantina suggests he’ll probably have a mission or two for you, sending you off to some remote corner of Batuu to find a rare artefact.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge

The videogame takes place on the planet of Batuu just on the outskirts of the Black Spire Outpost with the storyline set between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You play a droid repair technician who crashlands on the planet, ending up in Seezelslak’s Cantina where you listen to his stories and go on missions, encountering some famous characters along the way.

Updated April 22nd, 2021, here is the official press release from ILMxLAB: –

Today, ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s award-winning immersive entertainment studio, revealed that Dok-Ondar, a fan-favorite from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will be coming to Part II of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.

The studio also released a brand new piece of concept art featuring the mysterious Ithorian and his translation droid, set in Seezelslak’s Cantina, available here.

“Dok-Ondar and his famous antiquities shop rests at the heart of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. At ILMxLAB we are having a blast exploring more of his story and building on the lore for one of Black Spire Outpost’s most memorable characters,” said Jose Perez III, Director. “Being next to Dok-Ondar in virtual reality for the first time is truly a magical moment and we can’t wait for fans to experience it.”

An infamous collector who buys, sells, and trades rare and valuable relics in his Den of Antiquities in Black Spire Outpost, Dok-Ondar is known as the gatekeeper of the black market, as he has amassed an impressive collection of unique artifacts that is unrivaled in the galaxy.

“Dok-Ondar is as legendary as the antiquities he has collected from across the galaxy. From the first time we heard about him in Solo: A Star Wars Story, we knew that there was something mysterious about this infamous Ithorian,” said Scott Trowbridge, Walt Disney Imagineering Portfolio Creative Executive.  And although we’ve been able to learn more about him in the comics or even visit him in person at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, I’m thrilled that fans can now further connect and step even deeper inside his hidden past in Part II of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”

With Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, fans play a droid repair technician who crash lands on Batuu after a pirate attack. In typical Star Wars fashion, they’ll get swept up in a grand adventure on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost, proving that anyone can become a hero. As follow up to Part I, which launched in 2020 to critical acclaim, Part II will launch later this year on the Oculus Quest platform. Extending the core adventure, fans will be able to explore even more beyond the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost, and visit other places and eras in the Star Wars galaxy through two more legendary Tales.

“Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is expertly built for the Quest platform, with high fidelity graphics, nonstop action, and engaging narratives all running smoothly at 72fps,” said Ruth Bram, Executive Producer, Oculus Studios. “We can’t wait for our VR audience to continue their adventure on Batuu later this year.”
