At the LEGO UCS AT-AT launch at the LEGO Store in London’s Leicester Square we got to sit down for an exclusive interview with C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels and he spoke about using motion capture for the first time to bring C-3PO to life.
During the interview we spoke about his role in the last Skywalker Saga film, The Rise of Skywalker, and I asked if he thought he would ever put the C-3PO costume on again.
Anthony Daniels (AD): Interesting, here’s a first. Motion capture, I did it for the first time the other day.
Jedi News (JN): Oh, really….
AD: My lips are sealed, but to be able to play 3PO by wearing a grey suit with dots on and to look at a screen a millisecond later and he’s doing what I’m doing. I was like a child with my first LEGO box. Wow, this is cool!
JN: It’s an amazing technology.
AD: It’s more amazing that you could possiblY imagine. When you raise your hand and he raises it a nth of a second later. Wow! I think I was rather embarrassing in the studio because I kept stopping liking myself, admiring what I was doing.
He went on to heap praise on ILM (Industrial Light and Magic), calling them “the masters”, and to hear more you will need to tune into the next RADIO 1138 podcast later this week where we talk about his childhood toys, if he remembered LEGO as a child, voicing C-3PO in the LEGO animated specials, and the first time he saw the AT-AT.
