LEGO Issue Statement on Master Builder Series (MBS) and Utimate Collectors Series (UCS)

As soon as the Betrayal at Cloud City (#75222) was officially revealed we posed the following question in the LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN) forums….

With the announcement of Betrayal at Cloud City, a question has arisen since this set doesn’t appear to be part of the Ultimate Collectors Series (UCS). Instead, the press release states that this set is part of the LEGO Star Wars Master Builder Series (MBS). Does the MBS replace or supplement the UCS range?

Earlier today we got this statement from LEGO posted on the LAN….

The Master Builder Series models are large playsets and beside being complex builds they are characterized by having many play features and functions, interior details as well as a range of minifigures. Ultimate Collectors series will remain highly detailed display models providing complex builds with a focus on authenticity and both Ultimate Collectors Series and Master Builder Series will continue as a way to highlight the unique characteristic of each style of model.

This is what we presumed the answer would be, although it’s good to get some clarification on the matter. So does that mean we’ll get one of each type of set, UCS and MBS, each year? That’s a question I don’t think we’ll get an answer to, we’ll have to wait and see!

In the meantime we can now assume that sets including the Death Star (#10188), Ewok Village (#10236), Sandcrawler (#10144), the re-issued Death Star (#75159) and Assault on Hoth (#75098) would all be classified as MBS under the new definition. Let us know what you think!
