Could it be that after 29 years and a rebuff in 1990 that steered the franchise to it’s current home at Dark Horse that 2013 will be the final year that Star Wars calls Dark Horse home? That certainly seems to be the impression given by this report over at Blue Sky Disney.
According to Blue Sky Disney:
The Suits in the know have determined that no new contracts will be given to Dark Horse after the current ones expire. So all new projects after 2013 will be handled internally by Marvel.
Now, nothing here is verified, but Blue Sky Disney have a good rep for getting their rumours right and within fandom this was one of the first ‘leaps of logic’ made. It makes business sense for Disney, who also own Marvel, to bring Star Wars back to Marvel after almost three decades.
But, it’s widely acknowledged that Dark Horse have done a sterling job with the licence, expanding the Expanded Universe and releasing quality product. Marvel and DC have worked together in the past, so don’t discount a Dark Horse/Marvel partnership just yet.
