Ahead of the young adult novel’s release next week on February 2, IGN has posted an exclusive excerpt from author Claudia Gray’s The High Republic: Into The Dark. Check out the intro to IGN’s article copied below and then take the supplied source link for their excerpt.
Author Claudia Gray, whose previous Star Wars books include 2015’s Lost Stars and 2016’s Bloodlines, returns to the franchise for The High Republic: Into the Dark. This YA novel builds on the foundation of Light of the Jedi (while still acting as a standalone story) and explores how an ensemble cast of Jedi and refugees are impacted by “The Great Disaster,” the deadly hyperspace attack that forms the crux of the High Republic conflict. The book revolves mainly around the struggles of Reath Silas, a bookish Padawan who would much rather spend his days inside the Jedi Archives than on the wild frontier of the galaxy. But the Force works in mysterious ways, so Reath and his master find themselves among the hundreds of travelers stranded aboard an abandoned and very creepy space station.
Before getting to the excerpt, a little context is in order. This passage is taken from early in the book, after the hyperspace disaster has forced Reath’s ship and numerous others to take refuge aboard the aforementioned space station. A riot quickly breaks out as the refugees panic and begin hoarding food and supplies, forcing Reath and his comrades to restore law and order by force. Not Reath’s area of expertise, as we’ll see.
