Jedi News reader and contributor Marc Zachacki sent in a handful of questions for the team, asking some familiar questions but from a certain point of view. Next up it’s a member of our crack comic reviewing team, Chris Daly.
Q: What were your thoughts when Darth Vader told Luke he was his father?
A: It should be noted, I saw all three in the theater. If memory serves, my initial thought was that it must be a lie. After all, Vader was the epitome of evil. Was he even capable of telling the truth?
Q: How did you feel with two years before Luke talked to Yoda and Ben about this in Jedi?
A: Waiting for RotJ was excrutiating for any number of reasons, not the least of which was Luke’s confrontation w/ Yoda and Ben. There were so many questions left unanswered. Empire remains one of the greatest cliff hangers of all times.
Q: In Empire, Yoda says, “no, there is another”. Who did you think this other was?
A: My initial assumption was that they’d introduce a new character. I did not see the twin thing coming at all.
Q: In Empire, when Luke lands on Dagobah and he encounters Yoda without knowing it, did you know that was Yoda, or did you find out when Luke found out?
A: I feel like everyone knew it was Yoda right off the bat. Why else would they introduce an odd, little muppet? It also further set the stage for Jedi’s “delaying” the truth (such as when Ben didn’t immediately admit to being Obi-Wan).
Q: What were your thoughts on Luke and Leia being twins. And looking back did that change them for you?
A: I think that was a bigger surprise than Darth being their father. As with everyone else, it made the earlier kiss and Luke’s infatuation w/ Leia a little more “oogier.”
Q: The name Ewok was not said in Jedi. When was the first time you heard the name ‘Ewok’?
A: I’m guessing it had to be in relationship to the toys.
