The creative outlets for Star Wars are boundless and gamer Roach, who runs a small Serious Roleplay gaming community on the game Garry’s mod proves that.
Check after the break for details on his latest project.
Who said that roleplay was dead?
Empire Roleplay, sounds pretty damn cool. I know right? Empire Roleplay is an idea that was thought up early last year by a small group of Lua developers, and since then we have made some excellent development progress. Empire Roleplay is a gamemode for the Garry’s mod community, where you play as a Stormtrooper recruit on a Star Destroyer and play out your daily life as a Stormtrooper. Your duties include training, hunting down rebel scum in various star systems and honing your tie-fighter piloting skills.
I rarely work in this project anymore, however I will still add code and change around models from time to time as I was to one day hopefully host it on a gameserver so that other people can be nerdy and genuinely enjoy themselves roleplaying as a Stormtrooper.
Oh did I forget to mention that you can also train as a Sith Lord, that’s right. Garry’s Mod’s source engine allows for the user of lightsabers, and the community have put together a nice little collection of them in different colours. Force powers and sith lord models are also all already available in the game, remember that this gamemode is esentially a game inside a game.
Garry’s mod uses the source engine, our gamemode uses NutScript which is a free roleplay development framework provided by a member of the community.
What about Rebels?
Of course Rebels will have to exist for there to be any real challenge for the Stormtroopers, so I created a faction for them too so when events and raids of planets are happening players can choose and side and fight against one another with very well made blaster rifles.
If you are interested in this gamemode, and would like to see more development happen. Come and support us on our forums and get Garry’s Mod at the cheap price of around a fiver, nothing too expensive. Note that you will need at least one source engine game, fortunately you can get Team Fortress 2 for free on Steam.
Hope to see you all on the battlefield, may the Force be with you.
