Force Friday Boosts Star Wars Sales Six Times Over Average In The US

    It seems that Force Friday certainly brought the power of the Force to tills across the States as figures show a huge increase in turnover.

    This month saw the debut of new merchandise for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with US retailers opening their doors at midnight on 4th September.
    forcefriday480NPD figures reveal the top three super categories made up 87% of total dollar sales for the week, with action figures, accessories and action role back in front with 42% of the sales. Building sets follow at 27% with vehicles making up 18%.
    Juli Lennett, senior vice president of the U.S toys division at The NPD Group, said: “Force Friday provided a phenomenal lift for Star Wars, growing sales by six times its recent average weekly sales. About $1 of every $11 for the week was spent on a Star Wars toy.”
    The top selling Star Wars item for the week was Hasbro’s Star Wars The Black Series Figure 6” assortment.
