After a bumper celebration year in 2010 the first Star Wars sequel The Empire Strikes Back celebrates its thirty-first birthday today.
Released on May 21st 1980, the first sequel and second Star Wars film grossed $538,375,067 worldwide on an $18 million production budget, finishing the year as the number one movie, at the time only second to Star Wars in worldwide grosses.
