It is a time before the battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance is still young and the Empire still growing. But for C-3PO, a simple protocol droid and R2-D2, a courageous astromech droid, it is still early days. They are off on their own little adventures in strange and mystical galaxies. This time, their latest adventure brings them to the world of Kalarba.
Their latest adventure brings them onto the Pitareezes’ family ship where C-3PO and R2- D2 are helping taking orders. All is going to plan until hooligan pirates come to board the ship. But due to C-3PO’s amazing cooking skills and the captains love for stenness pie he is generous enough to let the crew and guests free apart from Nik, Threepio and Artoo.
After seizing full control of the ship, the pirate captain heads for their secret camp in the mountain side where they drink and let their true identities unravel! Suddenly Nik gets in a scramble with one of the fellow pirates and escapes, only to be found and held hostage by….Olag! What will Nik do and how will Artoo and Threepio save the day? The Review
In this issue of Droids we will be seeing some action from the usual, including Nik Pitareeze, his arch enemy Olag, Artoo and Threepio. But we will also be seeing some movement from new characters including Captain Huba and his crew of vile pirates. Nik will be an assisting host on his family owned cruise ship while Artoo and Threepio help take orders. But an unsuspecting attack from a gang of pirates will leave the guests in a life boat while Nik, Threepio and Artoo are taken as hostages.
There are many improvements in this issue from last. For example, they have included loads more dialogue and colourful pictures allowing the reader to really feel into the story. The story board isn’t as typical as it was in the last one as this issue includes loads of unexpected turns. But for a series which is meant to be based around Artoo and Threepio there doesn’t seem to be any actually heroic or non-heroic action from them. Is seems as their names have been used to pick up the sales on the market so that the writer can promote a new EU character, that being Nik Pitareeze.
So, the writers have made the dialogue a lot more intense making it a lot easier for the reader to get into the story. There are some great unpredictable turns within the story and some classic action has been included. If your passion for Star Wars first appeared in the 90’s then you’ll love this series and that goes for the EU fans as well.
