It is a time before the battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance is still young and the Empire still growing. But for C-3PO, a simple protocol droid and R2-D2, a courageous astromech droid, it is still early days. They are off on their own little adventures in strange and mystical galaxies. This time, their latest adventure brings them to the world of Kalarba.
Threepio and Artoo are assisting the Baron of Kalarba in a business deal. But as things start to go sour an evacuation alarm is issued and everybody on the station rushes for their ships. As the Baron collects any leftover souls Artoo and Threepio clear the bay. Although one problem occurs…two must stay behind. The pair of droids decides to sacrifice themselves and stay behind.
As they roam the deserted streets the pair bump into a gang of other droids who have been left behind, including a level-one automated security droid. They set off to complete one last mission until their time is up and finally discovers the horrible truth behind the evacuation alarm….Olag! He has sabotaged the reactor as a cover up for his master plan of stealing a precious cargo. As the droids try to stop him one terrible thing lurks in-between…
The Review
In this very last issue of Star Wars Droids we will be following the final adventures of Artoo, Threepio, the Baron and the sinister Olag. There will also be appearances from the grandson of the Baron; Nik Pitareeze, and security droid “ZED”.
Background colours like Red, Blue and Green have been used in close up shots which can really help highlight the character and his actions. Hand gestures are also used to emphasize characters emotions which is a lost or rare trait in modern day comics. A noted point is that hardly any strong primary colours are used in these old issues helping the storyboard feel even more futuristic with all these unique variants of colours.
This issue has also included a ton of awesome old style spaceships, aliens and droids which can help put a different perspective on the story. If you were to have shiny robots with state of the art weaponry you would take the storyline very seriously whereas with chunky battered up droids armed with stun bats you look at it with amusement which can make you feel like you have had a more enjoyable read. But overall this mini-series has been packed with good humour, classic lines and originality!.
