After way too long a time, I’ve finally returned to the studio for a new Star Wars photogallery! To kick off the new run of updates, I’ve turned the focus of my camera onto a new expression for the vehciles from a galaxy far, far away…the LEGO Microfighters Millennium Falcon! Get the full report after the jump! If you’re familiar with my name, you probably are aware that I’m a huge action figure fan and collector. I have various interests and large collections. However, I have not gone too deep in collecting LEGO sets. While I have built my fair share of sets over the years (both as a kid and as a father of kids), I haven’t gone too far with LEGO.
This changed for me when I saw the new line of Microfighters at Toy Fair back in February. I really got a kick out of the new smaller-scale vehicle & figure sets, with their “super-deformed” design and “too-cute” proportions. While the company has released a few similar sets in the recent past, it was the Millennium Falcon that caught my eye. After all, other than the USS Enterprise (and possibly the TARDIS), it is the most recognizable starship in all of science fiction! As an added bonus, my favorite Star Wars character of all time, Han Solo, is included in the set. All at a very affordable price.
Packaging
For those that keep track, this is set #75030. There are 94 pieces included, although I ended up with a few extras. Recommended for ages 6-12 (of which I am considerably older).
The front of the box includes ll of this information in a way that is consistent with all other LEGO sets. The back shows the other vehicle and figure sets in the Microfighters line, however I did not pick these up. There is a full-sized photo of Han Solo on the top and of course the text is bilingual.
Included in the set is a detailed instruction booklet, which shows how to build everything through the use of illustrations.
Millennium Falcon
Although it is not exactly screen accurate, thee is a LOT of detail in the Millennium Falcon. Once fully assembled, the ship includes a side cockpit than the figure can sit inside of and a pair of missiles that can be fired. The shape of the ship is similar to the classic Kenner toy, with a chunky style body made up of colored bricks. The radar dish can move as well, and there are clear “lights” and “hyperdrive” units in the back. Four circular pieces make up the rear vents, which is clever. Plus the underside includes larger circular pieces that protect the vehicle and also double as support pads. The only thing missing is a smuggling compartment!
Han Solo
The Han Solo figure is based on A New Hope, with blue pants, yellow shirt, and black vest. The head can be shown in two states: smiling or serious. Han also includes a blaster which can be held in either hand. There are holes in the back of the legs that allow Han to sit securely inside the cockpit.
Overall, I have to say this is a very FUN set to have sitting on top of my computer at work, and it has gotten quite a few comments from co-workers. Which is always fun to talk about Star Wars!
