Philip Harrison, a graphic artist at BAE Systems in Warton, near Preston, could be on a trip to Hollywood after his short film Mouse is watched and judged by Star Wars creator George Lucas.
The light-hearted animated film follows the story of a mischievous mouse droid, who has the last laugh after he encounters Darth Vader.
The film, dubbed ‘A very tall story of a very short droid in a very very large galaxy’, has only been online for days, but is already a huge hit among fans.
The 48-year-old, a fan since Star Wars was released in 1977, beat thousands of others to be entered into the annual Star Wars Fan Film Challenge.
He said: “A lot of people try to continue the Star Wars story, I thought I would try and do something a bit different.
“I thought it would be nice to do it from the droid’s point of view and create a story around its life.
“I’ve always wanted to work on a Star Wars film and although I am a massive fan and an accomplished artist I’ve had no luck, even though I have sent portfolio of my artwork to them over the years.”
