Luke Skywalker
Right at the centre of the story is a character called Luke Skywalker. He was first introduced to audiences in the original 1977 film and is the main protagonist of the original trilogy, while also appearing in the later sequel trilogy. Skywalker was raised on the desert planet Tatooine as a moisture farmer, but he leaves his original life behind to join the Rebel Alliance in its fight against the Galactic Empire.

An original lightsaber made for Luke Skywalker, which was used in the ‘A New Hope’ and ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ films, sold for $450,000 back in 2017, this shows how passionately the fans feel about Skywalker’s presence in the films.
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
Anakin Skywalker is pushed up to number two on this list because he manages to take up two roles in the saga. Anakin Skywalker is introduced as a gifted child with an unusually strong connection to the Force; he is from the same planet that his son was from, too. Some Jedi believe him to be the “Chosen One” who will bring balance to the Force, and he trains under Obi-Wan Kenobi and grows into a powerful but emotionally conflicted Jedi Knight. Emperor Palpatine manages to tempt Anakin with promises of more power and the ability to avoid death, because of this, Anakin turns to the dark side of the Force, and he starts using the name, Darth Vader. This transformation marks a dramatic shift in both identity and morality, as he becomes one of the main enforcers of the Galactic Empire.
In the final stages of the original trilogy, Vader ultimately turns against the Emperor to save Luke, sacrificing himself in the process, this decision confirms that he could be redeemed and reaffirms the idea that, despite his actions, there was still good within him.
Yoda
Yoda is one of the most respected and recognisable figures in the Star Wars universe, he is a small green Jedi Master and a long-serving member of the Jedi High Council, known for his wisdom, patience, and deep understanding of the Force. Although he is small, Yoda is exceptionally powerful and highly skilled in both lightsaber combat and the spiritual aspects of the Jedi path.
Yoda plays a really important role in the training of new generations of Jedi, and in the prequel trilogy, he is a senior leader within the Jedi Order during the final years of the Galactic Republic. He was therefore responsible for offering guidance during a time of serious and growing political tension in the universe. Despite his strength and experience, he witnesses the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire, which ultimately leads to his exile.
R2-D2
This character is one of the most consistent and quietly important additions in the entire Star Wars saga, and although he is a droid designed primarily for starship repair and technical support, he repeatedly proves himself to be far more than just a side character. From the very first film, R2-D2 is central to the story, and he is known for his resourcefulness and loyalty. He never hesitates in dangerous situations and often acts independently when others are unsure what to do, always trying to assist his friends. Despite communicating only through electronic beeps and whistles, his values are clear to the audience. A lot of the other characters in the series struggle with moral choices throughout their lives, but not R2-D2; he consistently plays a crucial role in helping the heroes succeed and even survive.
An original R2-D2 unit used for the original trilogy sold for nearly $3 million it was a 43-inch-tall unit and was sold through the auction house Profiles in History, and it was made out of parts used throughout filming the original films.
