The review;
2020 has hit the publication of literature massively with delays and cancellations of many titles. Star Wars Insider has been no exception to that rule and issue 199 released in the weeks before Christmas has been welcomed by fans around the globe.
There is the usual deluge of information, reviews, and interviews, but this issue is slightly different. Well, different is possibly the wrong word, but should I say ‘retro‘? I say this because issue 199 sees the return of the fiction section. For this first time since 2017, we have exclusive literature especially created for Insider and what a way to start. With the impending launch of The High Republic era next month, the first new fiction is a 2-part story by Charles Soule, author of Light of the Jedi.
I am lucky enough to be reading a review copy of Light of the Jedi and the new fiction fits in perfectly. It is set hours before the events of the new book and gives a little introduction and a bit extra background on Joss and Pikka Arden. Now unfortunately that is as far as I can go without revealing any spoilers, but this first part is a must read and it is concluded in issue 200 in early February 2021.
Having featured so many brilliant authors including Karen Traviss, Jason Fry, Matthew Stover, John Ostrander, Timothy Zahn and Alan Dean-Foster over the years, it is fantastic to see this feature return.
Let’s hope it will be a permanent fixture beyond issue 200.
