Riz Ahmed Joins the Cast of Audible’s Harry Potter Series as Professor Snape

Oscar winner Riz Ahmed, Bodhi Rook in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has joined the cast of Audible’s Harry Potter Series as Professor Severus Snape, with the first book debuting on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025.

Audible and Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing announced the cast for the major roles in “Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions” as well as premiere dates for the seven new audiobook titles. The launch of the Audible-Pottermore “Harry Potter” audiobooks comes as HBO’s production of a separate TV adaption of Rowling’s immensely popular fantasy series has commenced in the U.K.

Casting for “Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions” was completed in early 2025 and production is nearly wrapped, with more 2,000 recording hours logged to date to create what Audible says are “unabridged editions” the original Rowling books. The project, announced in April 2024, promises an “immersive audio entertainment experience” featuring an all-new score and original music plus “high-quality sound design” and “real-world sound capture.”

The cast is led by Hugh Laurie (“House”), who voices Albus Dumbledore, with Matthew Macfadyen (“Succession”) as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”) as Professor Snape and Michelle Gomez (“Doctor Who”) as Professor McGonagall. Cush Jumbo (“The Good Fight”) lends her voice as the narrator for the seven-book series.

Young actors Frankie Treadaway, Max Lester and Arabella Stanton will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger respectively in audiobooks one, two and three. Stanton is also playing Hermione in HBO’s series. Jaxon Knopf, Rhys Mulligan and Nina Barker-Francis will assume the same roles (Harry, Ron, and Hermione respectively) in audiobooks 4-7. Additional cast members will be announced this fall.

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will debut on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, with each of the remaining six English-language audiobooks releasing monthly worldwide. The titles can be preordered on Audible (see this link).

The release schedule for the rest of the series is as follows: “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” Dec. 16, 2025; “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” Jan. 13, 2026; “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” Feb. 10, 2026; “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” March 10, 2026; “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” April 14, 2026; and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” May 12, 2026.

The cast also includes my cousin Max Lester in the role of Ron Weasley for the first three books.
