No need for preamble, we’re back in an era of Star Wars partworks for the first time in a few years and so here’s the second issue of The Official Factfiles.

It’s clear from the off that this iteration of the Factfiles will not only fill in the gaps left by ending the previous series before the events of Revenge of the Sith, and of course The Clone Wars, but it will also lavish upon us cleverly designed folder, posters and inserts. Issue 2 is no exception, bringing us a striking folder adorned with a Stormtrooper graphic. Inside we have a handy galaxy chart on the left and to the right a timeline of Star Wars history, from the Battle of Ruusan right through to the Battle of Endor and including lore from novels, comics and The Clone Wars TV series.

On to the issue itself. Each issue is broken down into six sections. Battle and Events, Droids and Machines, Humans and Aliens, Planets and Locations, Weapons and Technology and Starships and Vehicles. This week we take a closer look at the hunt for the droids from A New Hope, the Droid Tri-Fighter from Revenge of the Sith, Commander Cody and the one and only Master Yoda, the ice planet Hoth, the lava world of Mustafar, the Magnaguards Electrostaff and the Incom T-65. The X-Wing is given a detailed schematic, allowing us a closer look at the workings of the workhorse of the Rebellion.

A very neat touch is, in the article on Hoth, the use of little seen McQuarrie artwork showing Tauntauns in their natural habitat. A classy touch that I hope continues.
It’s clear that a this series develops we’re going to be treated to some detailed information on the Star Wars galaxy, pulling together all manner of info. It will be fun recapping, learning new knowledge (after all, there’s no one who knows everything) and seeing the files develop.
