The Plot:

To catch up with the previous issue, go here…

The story follows Dr Aphra and her companions after she has evaded Vader’s wrath, she can now get on with her normal day job, archaeology, or so she thinks as she owes a load of credits and must evade detection from the Empire who are hot on their tails………

Captain Tolvan and her Snowtroopers have followed Dr Aphra & Dr Aphra senior into the frozen cavern deep in the heart of the ancient Jedi complex of the ‘Ordu Aspectu’, the ‘The Citadel of Rur’, but the two doctors have disappeared deep into the core.  Suddenly, deep from the depths the ancient machine of Eternal Rur attacks the troops and their Captain.

Meanwhile deep in the core of the world, the two Aphra’s are facing the chief machine who they have awoken from its deep slumber & it demands to know what time era they are in. Aphra negotiates with the machine to trade the information for the ancient story of what happened a long time ago between the ‘Ordu’ & the ‘Orthodox Jedi’, an ancient conflict that was resolved and then went sour again pretty swiftly, when Ordu turned machine crazy and inplanted on an army of machines who slayed all the Jedi bar one, named the ‘Fake Rur’ who after his colleagues are slain chased the Ordu across the Galaxy and de-activated the evil machine, until now.

As promised Dr Aphra tells Ordu the era they are in and the machine quickly realizes that its plans to control the Galaxy have failed and starts attacking the 2 Aphra’s. They have an important decision to make, in order to escape they must set off a chain reaction that will destroy the Citadel and the ‘Ordu Aspectu’ evidence that they were hunting for. Dr Aphra junior takes matters into her own hands and slashes the machine and its core with the help of a previously stolen blue lightsaber! In order to escape the now self destructing citadel, the Archaeologists & their Imperial hunters combine their efforts to escape with their lives on the Imperial Lambda Class shuttle.

Only Captain Tolvan & Dr’s Aphra Sr & Jr make it away on the shuttle, but they are not alone! One of the robots has stowed away & starts attacking our escapees. Captain Tolvan is flattened, and the machine is subdued, but the captain has other ideas and pulls a blaster on Dr Aphra Jr but forgets about Aphra Sr, who stabs her from behind in the shoulder with the stolen lightsaber.

They drop the Captain off on a barren planet in the Outer Rim, and back on boardc the shuttle Dr Aphra reveals to her dad that she stole a giant crystal from the citadel which they put into a special quarantine location for safe keeping, given its dangerous origins.

In a dingy Cantina somewhere in the Galaxy, Aphra Jr has returned to pay off her debts with the credits she raised from selling the stolen lightsabers. Whilst in the Cantina, Krrsantan the Wookie approaches her and they resolve their problems after the Wookie abandoned her and her father to die after stealing her ship. The good doctor then reveals to him that the valuable Crystal she stole from the Citadel and put into quarantine facility was a fake & that she in fact she still holds the very valuable, ancient and rare artifact.

The Review:

So this story arc comes to an end, and with it Dr Aphra is established as a firm fans favorite. Including recently being voted the fans choice to become the next Hasbro figure in its Vintage 3.75″ collection.

Overall the comic has been one of Marvels better offerings of the new cannon. The art has been the best I have seen & the story is very good too, when you dont want a comic to end, you know its good. The only part of the story that I wasn’t too keen on myself and its just my opinion, was when the story moved to the icy citadel, I found the story to be a bit confusing and hard to grasp when it came to the Rur’s etc, but maybe that’s just me personally. When reading for fun I prefer not to have to think too much & read things twice!

Fear not though, if you want more Aphra, she is due to return in ‘The Screaming Citadel’ with a certain Luke Skywalker in Marvels new gothic-horror crossover, due later this month.
