Female Fronted Movies Topped Box Office in 2017 – First Time in 50 Years

As people start going back to work, there’s more box office analysis coming daily. Movies fronted by women topped the box office in 2017, the first time this has happened in 50 years. This from Digital Spy….

The top three highest-grossing movies in the US and Canada were driven by female characters.

Topping the list was Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which has taken in $533.1 million, overtaking Beauty and the Beast‘s $504 million in the US and Canada.

Completing the list was Wonder Woman, which made $412.6 million domestically, soaring ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($389.8 million) and Spider-Man: Homecoming($334.2 million).

1958 was the last time female-driven movies topped the domestic box office – led by South Pacific, Auntie Mame and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (via Box Office Madness).
