Royal Selangor’s Droids – R2-D2 & BB-8

In 1885 Yong Koon a Chinese immigrant to Malaysia with nothing to his name but a set of tools and a determination to succeed opened a little shop, today Koon’s shop has grown into the company known as Royal Selangor, a world-renowned pewter manufacturer.

This past month I had the opportunity to visit the Royal Selangor shop on the Kings Road, London to view the collection in full and today bring you the fourth of a series of galleries covering their full Star Wars Collection.  Be sure to also check out our Baze & Chirrut galleries, as well as our look at the dioramas in the collection.

As part of their continuing exclusive Star Wars Collection, covering all eight Star Wars films come these two stunning droid themed containers. ‘R2-D2’ and ‘BB-8.’

The R2-D2 canister captures the spunky droid who had serving a multitude of masters over its lifetime. R2-D2 had served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker and has shown great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils. A starship mechanic and fighter pilot’s assistant, the droid formed an unlikely but enduring friendship with the fussy protocol droid C-3PO.
