The Entertainer Bucks High Street Trend As Profits Soar

The Entertainer are bucking high street trends with rising sales and profits.

The family-run high street and online toy retailer, The Entertainer has recorded rising sales and profits last year, bucking the trend seen on a high street that continues to struggle.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the high street had been hit with its worst figures in seven years, and that shops and restaurants were lying empty at the fastest rate in the past decade.

However, these are woes not to be felt by the high street toy specialist, The Entertainer, who recently revealed that pre-tax profits had soared 29 per cent to £14.7 million, while sales were up £37.7 million to £204.4 million during the year.

Founder Gary Grant, who started up The Entertainer business with his wife Catherine, even managed to pocket a £2.6m dividend. 10 per cent of this was given to charity. Grant founded the toy shop business in Amersham, Buckinghamshire in 1981.

It’s become the fastest growing, omni-channel, family-run toy shop in the UK, with a global foothold, since.

In an interview with The Times, Grant stated that he was “accountable to God, not to shareholders.”
