Academy Award winner Roger Christian, the Art Director for Star Wars: A New Hope, and Second Unit Director on Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace, has received an honorary membership to the 501st Legion at their Canadian Garrison’s Holiday Party (click the image above for a larger view).
The key creator of the used worlds and environments that we know and love, Christian was the third person employed by George Lucas on Star Wars and his set designs played a huge part in making the franchise what it is today. His talents were also behind the art direction of Alien before he took the directors seat for films such as The Sender and Nostradamus.
Earlier this year Christian released for the first time to iTunes his short film, Black Angel. Black Angel is one of the most critically acclaimed shorts of all time and went on to inspire many of our modern day fantasy movies and directors. It was also famed for being the short movie attached to The Empire Strikes Back and is available to buy here.
Last week it was announced that a feature movie based on the Black Angel concept is under development by Christian, with it described as “Game of Thrones meets Lord Of The Rings, 300 graphic novel style. Down & dirty & real.”
We can’t wait to hear more.
Congratulations to Roger on his honorary membership, which you can read about more over on WhiteArmour.net.
