Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016: Madame Tussauds Bash

It was four years ago today that we took part/help organise the Madame Tussauds Bash as part of Star Wars Celebration Europe 2016 for ‘Four Clubs, One Force‘ with the UK Garrison, Rebel Legion and Galactic Academy. Merlin London Events published an article about the event on their blog….

What were your aims for the event?

“The 501st costuming group always put on a party or bash at each Star Wars Celebration event around the world. Working together as Four Clubs, One Force (the four clubs being UK Garrison (501st), Rebel Legion, Galactic Academy and Jedi News) we wanted the #1Bash to be bigger and better than anything that had come before. We also wanted to put on an event that would showcase the best that London had to offer, as well as trying to ensure there was still some link back to Star Wars. The event also needed to have some kind of charity element too.”

Burns had attended the grand opening party of the Star Wars exhibit at Madame Tussauds London in 2015 and kept the venue in mind for the party he was organising the following July, so he enquired with Merlin Events about capacity and availability shortly after.

How did Merlin Events help you deliver the event?

“After getting an agreement from Madame Tussauds that we could put on the event on a Saturday evening in the Summer, and that the costs were within reach (thanks to the sponsorship provided by Sky Cinemas, RS Props, Winning Moves and MCM Expo) we worked together to ensure the evening would flow properly.”

After confirming the quote with Merlin Events, Burns and his team met with their event manager on site and walked through the plans for the party – “Together with Martin Walter from our team and Harry Upton from Merlin Events we worked out timings, foods requirements and more. We arranged for performances from Darth Elvis and the Imperials, DJ Elliott and Marc Daniels and also arranged for a charity auction to be conducted by Steve Sansweet from Rancho Obi-Wan (with all proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) via Force for Change). The timings changed a few times over the ten months of planning but together Martin and Harry were able to ensure that everything was taken care of.”
