The Star Wars Archives: Episodes I-III by Paul Duncan has begun shipping, and in one of the author’s conversations with George Lucas the author shares what villains Lucas had intended for the sequel trilogy, namely Darth Maul and Darth Talon.
George Lucas’ plan for the sequel trilogy included: Darth Maul and Darth Talon as the villains; Luke rebuilding the Jedi Order from survivors of Order 66; Leia forming the New Republic, becoming the Chosen One. Duncan added….
He added that Lucas had “told me all this last year” and that “these were some of his ideas when prepping the films in 2012, before he sold to Disney”.
Lucas said that in his initial sequel plans “Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire falls, he takes over”, adding that Darth Talon would have been the Darth Vader of the sequel trilogy.
His trilogy also would have focused heavily on Leia Organa, who would have rebuilt the Republic and ultimately become the Supreme Chancellor and ‘chosen one’. Luke Skywalker also would have been a big part of the trilogy as he rebuilt the Jedi Order, connecting with hidden survivors of Order 66.
