Entertainment Weekly Dives Into The Origin And Character Of K-2SO

Earlier last month Entertainment Weekly released an article that shed some light on what went into the design for the look of Rogue One‘s new droid K-2SO. Their latest piece on the mo-cap droid played by Alan Tudyk focuses more on the “character” side of K-2SO and how he undergoes a pretty radical change during the film.

The film’s Rebel squad, who are on a mission to steal the Death Star plans, is partly made of individuals who once served the Empire. Riz Ahmed’s volatile pilot Bodhi Rook is one of them, a former Imperial transport operator. Another isn’t a person at all — the imposing security droid K-2SO, played via performance-capture by Alan Tudyk.

In the video [provided here], we walk through Kaytoo’s origin, and the intriguing premise that a machine built to serve the galactic dictatorship could have its programming altered to see its past through a new moral lense.
