It was a good weekend for Paramount Pictures’ A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Star Wars alumnus Lupita Nyong’o, with the prequel earning $53 million in the USA and $45.5 million in the international market, totaling $98.5 million globally.
A Quiet Place: Day One also achieved the biggest debut in the franchise. It exceeded its predecessors A Quiet Place, which opened with $50 million and A Quiet Place Part II, which opened with $48 million.
“We listened to the fans about what they’d be looking for,” said Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson (via Variety). “This origin story, giving them a new city as the setting and fresh characters, all conspired to broaden the audience.”
A Quiet Place: Day One is in cinemas now and was only surpassed at the box office by Inside Out 2.
