Rian Johnson Confirms ‘The Last Jedi’ Is The Longest ‘Star Wars’ Film

Confirming the earlier report from September, Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has stated that The Last Jedi will in fact be the longest-running Star Wars theatrical film released by Lucasfilm to date – 150 minutes long (including the end credits). Johnson made the announcement during a press event for the film that took place in France.

In addition, Johnson also confirmed during the press event that Rogue One director Gareth Edwards, who had a cameo in his own film, will also have a cameo in Episode VIII, though Johnson was not open to revealing any specific details on the subject.

Johnson made the following comments when asked during the presser about the creative freedom he was afforded by Lucasfilm during the development of The Last Jedi:

“Disney gave us a real freedom in writing. It was something very organic. For me, it was like when I worked on my old movies.”
