It’s looking good for Rogue One to pass the billion dollar mark within the next 2 weeks as the film approaches $800 million worldwide after just 20 days on release internationally. Staying number one at the box office for a third weekend with $439,714,705 in the bank in North America and $350,000,000 around the rest of the world, the grand total is now an estimated $789,714,705.
That figure places it in the number 2 slot for 2016 releases in the States, just $47 million behind Finding Dory. That total should fall by this time next week and in doing so the film will pass the grand total of both its 1977 sequel A New Hope on $460,998,007 and fellow prequel The Phantom Menace on $474,544,677. Currently, Rogue One is the 13th highest grossing film of all time in North America, wedged between E.T in 14th and Shrek 2 in 12th, just $2 million dollars ahead. $20 million dollars will pull it ahead of Avengers Age of Ultron into the all-time top 10 alongside A New Hope, The Phantom Menace and the number one film The Force Awakens.
Its $439,714,705 total is also enough to bring the film into the all-time top 100 inflation-adjusted list. Right now it sits in 96th position, just ahead of Ghost and behind Toy Story 3. In 92nd place sits Attack of the Clones with an inflation-adjusted figure of $455,016,700. That looks certain to be surpassed within the week as it then aims for the next Star Wars film on the adjusted list, Revenge of the Sith in 63rd position on an inflation-adjusted total of $504,852,200. That’s almost certainly as high up this particular list as Rogue One will get. The next Star Wars film is The Phantom Menace on an adjusted figure of $768,555,700 in 18th position. In 16th is Return of the Jedi on $800,445,600, in 13th The Empire Strikes Back on $835,517,200, in 11th The Force Awakens on $920,059,500 and in 2nd place A New Hope with an adjusted total of $1,515,797,800.
