‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ To Pass $1.3 Billion This Weekend

BoxOfficeMojo.com are predicting a total of $4.3 million for The Last Jedi this weekend in the US alone, from 1,745 theaters. Currently The Last Jedi’s worldwide box office total sits at $1,298.7 billion, and with this weekend’s expected take in the US it will take it over $1.3 billion — probably at some point later today.

There’s still some gas left in the tank but it’s running out. Forbes.com predict the film will end at around ~$1.325 billion — adding between $45-55 million worldwide total to it’s current figure, of which $15-20 million will come from the US.

Currently sitting at $606.5 in the US, it needs another ~$16.8 million to pass Marvel’s The Avengers to end up at #5 in the US domestic chart — it may do that — just! Meanwhile from a worldwide perspective The Last Jedi currently sits at #9 with a total of $1,298.7 and might just about pass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($1,341.5) currently in 8th position in the all-time worldwide chart.

A stronger performance in China would have elevated The Last Jedi further, as would a release of director’s cut of the film with the extra scenes added in by Rian Johnson — it’s a real shame this has been ruled out. More news and analysis to come.
