The Walt Disney Company announced that they will be hosting Investor Day 2020 on October 7th at 9:00am EST (6am PST, 2pm BST). Though last year’s Investor Day presentation took place in April, the Coronavirus pandemic has pushed it back this year to the fall.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek will be addressing investors and stockholders about a wide range of financial and production information. The presentations mostly focus on the business side of things, but there will likely be tidbits of news that we can all enjoy.
Since Bob Iger has stepped down as CEO, viewers will receive the first Investor Day hosted by Bob Chapek. Many expect that even though the financial reports have been gloomy for the company, Chapek will focus on the successes of the Disney+ streaming service and the premium view on-demand release of Mulan. The streaming feature film grossed around $260 million. Other Disney+ properties that will make the list include the wildly popular Star Wars: The Mandalorian and upcoming Marvel shows like WandaVision and Hawkeye. Naturally, Chapek will detail the financials of Disney+, including prices, programming, release dates, and subscriber projections.
Other streaming platform information should cover Hulu and ESPN+, as well.
In line with its streaming success, Disney also plans to reveal information about the Star streaming platform. In many ways, this will resemble Hulu, though offered as an international platform with a different catalog.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will not play as much a dominant role as it has in the past. Chapek may report production updates for WandaVision, Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, since they have resumed filming.
Additionally, Chapek may share reopening plans for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park. Disney, California Attractions and Parks Association, and Anaheim have called on Governor Gavin Newsome to pave the way for reopening. With pressure mounting, the governor may be providing guidance soon, and that information could be forthcoming on Investor Day.
Regarding the reopening of other Disney Parks, Chapek could also highlight their successes in implementing company-wide policies and procedures in response to COVID-19. Disney has excelled at keeping Cast Members and guests healthy and safe during the reopenings of Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World.
