While the interweb currently abounds with clickbait headlines proclaiming that Donald Glover will be playing Lando Calrissian (as always, unless it’s announced on StarWars.com it’s just watercooler conversation) there does seem to be a head of steam building around the fantastic Glover and the potential for him to play the role of Calrissian in Lord and Miller’s first Han Solo film, which as we speak is just 636 days away.
He was born 4 months to the day after the release of Return of the Jedi, meaning he’s 13 years younger than Billy Dee Williams was when he played the role in 1982. Williams is 5 years older than Harrison Ford. Glover is 6 years older than the new Han Solo, Alden Ehrenreich. Those stars certainly align, but until there’s an official announcement…
There have been rumors that you will be in the Han Solo spinoff.
DG: Yep. There are rumors.
How do you feel about the Star Wars franchise?
I mean, I grew up on it. My dad was a big fan. I had all the toys when I was little. I had a Darth Vader with the lightsaber he has. It was cool. It’s a dynasty. It’s like the bible. I love that franchise.
