
The interactive thriller follows a nameless man (McAvoy) whose romantic evening with his wife (Ridley) is interrupted by an intruder (Dafoe). As the man tries to stop the attacker, he is knocked out and finds himself back at the start of the evening and stuck in a 12-minute time loop.
Players of the game, highlighted last month at the Xbox indie games showcase, must try to solve the violent crime — which includes an accusation of murder — and return the passage of time to its usual schedule.
“I’m thrilled to have this incredibly talented cast bring the nuanced and complex characters of Twelve Minutes to life,” said Luis Antonio, a former 3D artist with Rockstar Games who is making his game directing debut with the title, in a statement. “This experience blends the genres of film and games, and these extraordinary actors are perfect for the challenge of delivering a new type of entertainment.”
Annapurna Interactive, a subsidiary of film studio Annapurna Pictures launched in 2016, is known for the musical adventure Sayonara Wild Hearts and visual novel Florence, as well as the narrative puzzle game Telling Lies and first-person adventure What Remains of Edith Finch.
Currently awaiting a release date, Twelve Minutes will drop on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X as a console exclusive.
