Review
LEGO have produced a couple of sets and a series of minifigures from Marvel’s What If…? Disney+ series, and here we take a look at Captain Carter & The Hydra Stomper (#76201).
This set takes out cues from the first episode of the series which looks at what would happen if Captain Carter became the first Avenger. In this alternate reality, Peggy Carter is given the super-soldier serum and is promoted to the role of Captain Carter, whilst Steve Rogers gets to pilot the Hydra Stomper created for him by Howard Stark. Together, Carter and Rogers infiltrate a Hydra base and go after Red Skull.

The box contains three numbered bags, an instruction manual and sticker sheet.
The Build
There are three stages to the build which starts with putting together the Captain Carter minifigure followed by the construction of the torso of the Hydra Stomper. Unfortunately, the iconography on the front of the torso is created using stickers instead of printed elements. The second stage continues with Red Skull, and then the legs are built and attached to the torso. Finally, we put together Steve Rogers and add the arms to the mech. Lots of stickers are employed to add further detail to the arms and legs.
The resultant mech looks splendid in a bright green colour, although olive green may have matched the animation more closely (but may have required more recoloured elements), and the printed head piece seems to use a different shade of green which is somewhat unfortunate. The mech is brought to life via the use of the standard articulated shoulder, hip and ankle joints.
To access the cockpit you need to lift the head and lower the breastplate, and the resultant space is quite spacious to accommodate a minifigure. However, the cockpit has no controls or levers, and no stickers are used here to represent them which seems like an oversight.
All three of the included minifigures are exclusive to this set and they look splendid. Captain Carter wears a dark blue uniform which features a metallic silver Union Jack emblem on her torso, she comes with a dual printed head, and a Vibranium shield which also displays a metallic silver Union Jack. Red Skull has just one printed face, along with a printed torso and legs that feature dark red highlights and metallic silver studs. Finally, Steve Rogers wears an olive green uniform with a printed torso, plain legs, a dual printed head, and a medium nougat hair component.
Overall
Whilst we’ve had numerous mechs in the Marvel range, I really like the colour used here, even though it might not be completely accurate to the animation. There are obvious areas that could be improved such as colour matching the head and providing some cockpit controls, but priced at just £24.99/$29.99 with three exclusive minifigures, I think this set represents good value for money and looks great on display.
