Review
Available at the end of April 2021, two new LEGO Star Wars Buildable Model Helmets of Darth Vader and the Scout Trooper have been added to the line of existing helmets released exactly a year earlier (Stormtrooper, Boba Fett and TIE Fighter Pilot). These two releases continue the trend of being released under the new adult orientated 18+ theming, introduced last year by LEGO in an attempt to lure more adults to the premium brand.
The packaging consists of a black portrait box, featuring the helmet’s name and affiliation at the top, followed by a highlighted picture of the completed set and the LEGO Star Wars branding. Running along the base of the box, a strip identifies the set’s target age, product number and piece count. Whilst the box states the target age is 18+, we can confidently state that these could be built by many from the age of 8+.
Inside the Box
The set is comprised of 471 pieces, the smallest of all the Star Wars helmets released to date, and these are broken down into five numbered bags, each corresponding to the stages of the build. The 84 page manual starts with a brief introduction by LEGO Star Wars Creative Director Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, followed by a picture of a Scout Trooper outside of the Endor bunker from Return of the Jedi. There is also a sticker sheet with a total of 15 stickers, 12 of which represent the many vents on the helmet, and a printed name plate.
The Build
This helmet is built differently from most of the others, the first bag building the mask of the helmet culminating with the black visor which looks accurate when compared to the source material. The second bag adds the rear and crown of the helmet. Moving on to bag 3, we build the black base of the helmet and affix the build from bags 1 and 2 atop the finished structure.
Bag 4 adds the rest of the ‘face’, including the breathing mask and neck elements, with the final bag adding the right and left sides of the helmet before adding the printed LEGO Star Wars Scout Trooper name plate. Since left and right sides are mirrors of one another, it is possible to build these at the same time.

This was the quickest helmet to build, due to the reduced piece count, but it was also the most enjoyable, probably because it employs a few different techniques to the others. I think it looks fantastic, but the visor shroud could be improved with some more curved elements, although that would inevitably result in a higher price point.
This is the cheapest Star Wars helmet to-date, coming in at 471 pieces, that’s over 150 less than Boba Fett’s helmet (#75277) which had the least elements previously. Looking back at last year’s reviews for the first wave of helmets, I commented that these should be priced at £50 or below, and I am pleased to see that this helmet comes in at £44.99 UK/$49.99 USA.
