Jedi News Review: The Official Star Wars Fact File Issue 1

Partworks return to the Star Wars galaxy as the Official Factfiles make a comeback with DeAgostini’s Official Star Wars Factfiles. Including all 6 current saga entries and The Clone Wars this updated and detailed look at the Star Wars universe aims to delve into all the nitty gritty we love so much.

Issue 1 kicks off the series strongly, focusing on The Battle of Yavin, Artoo Detoo, Buzz Droids, Jawas, Darth Maul, Felucia, Darth Vaders lightsaber and the Millennium Falcon.

We have some cool stuff incoming, by the way of free gifts for subscribing as well as binders (different to the prior series in that each binder is a unique design) and an online version of the partwork. It’s clear that DeAgostini have gone all out to make this release a bit different, more detailed and enticing to their readership. With this first issue costing a mere 50p and weekly entries £2.99 they’ve certainly made the title an attractive proposition.

But above and beyond the actual magazine and it’s entries we also get a galaxy map, similar to that which we were treated to in the Essential Atlas, that allows us to trace the various hyperspace routes, a galactic gazetteer, key worlds, a galactic compass, galactic directions and well known routes. As a D6 RPG player of 27 years this is absolute gravy.

So the partwork kicks off with a strong entry, giving us the promise of very cool items to follow as well as an excellent map. We’ll be bringing you a review of the title week-by-week, so stay tuned.
