It’s a contentious issue without a cast-iron answer. Was Hollywood legend Steve Martin wrong to mention Carrie Fisher’s looks before noting her wit? I take a look at this tricky topic in my latest blog over at The Metro.
Commenting on the passing of his long-time friend Carrie Fisher just two days ago Hollywood legend Steve Martin walked into a controversy when he posted his first thoughts on her death on Twitter.
While noting her legendary wit, he began the tweet by commenting on her looks, something that caused such a furore in the feedback that he opted to delete the tweet altogether.
Fisher’s quick wit and humour was well known and used to great effect in her novels, screenplays and script doctoring work.
Anyone who ever saw her on late night chat shows was well aware of her incendiary tongue, self-awareness and willingness to cut herself to the quick.
No one roasted Carrie Fisher more than Carrie herself, and for that she gained a loyal following of fans across the world.
