The training of incumbent Jedi has always been a key focus of the Star Wars saga.
As the warrior monks of the series, their development and training had an influence on the fate of the entire galaxy.
Think about it, if the Jedi Order of the prequel trilogy had been able to develop and train the Chosen One Anakin Skywalker correctly then his path to the dark side may have been diverted, the rise of the Emperor halted, the fall to the dark side and the dissolution of the Jedi Order stopped.
It’s why the training of Rey in The Last Jedi is so desperately important.
