Musterbrand recently released two new jackets inspired by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Catrina Dennis at StarWars.com sat down with the Musterbrand co-founder and CEO, Knut Bergel, to talk about the history of the company and the design process behind its new products.
What I love most about Musterbrand is that they create true inspired products. Oftentimes, brands release generic apparel, but when you shop at Musterbrand, you get so much more.
“We don’t simply copy logos or print approved assets on items,” said Bergel during the interview. “We design everything from scratch based on the apparel of the character, some of which are close and wearable replicas of what’s on screen. So we’re not just focusing on the graphical elements, but also the feel of the fabric, the choice of knit, [ensuring everything] meets the character or setting of the movie.”
In addition to the Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor inspired jackets, fans can also purchase the Kylo Ren and Rey sweaters.
Bergel also went on to say, “Designing for these films gives us an opportunity to take what these fantastical characters are and twist it into something wearable, with a recognizable silhouette or pattern. So with the jackets, that was what we wanted to emulate and bring to life: that gritty Rebel feel with a clean cut for long wear.”
