Review: Star Wars: Starships & Vehicles from Fanhome

Fanhome is the new name for licensed fan products available from the nearly 120-year-old company De Agostini. The company has been responsible for many Star Wars publications in recent years, including the legendary Star Wars Fact Files and the award-winning Build Your Own Millennium Falcon.

Star Wars: Starships & Vehicles is a new fascinating collection of die-cast replicas featuring the most famous ships and vehicles from across the Star Wars saga. This is the second release of the same name following the 2008 release from DeAgostini which featured smaller die-cast vehicles accompanied by a magazine that ran for a total of 80 issues. The name is the only thing these two collections have in common though, since the 2022 release is all new, with larger die-cast vehicles, and covers the entire Skywalker Saga from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace through to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, along with the anthology films of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: Resistance, and The Mandalorian.

As with other Fanhome products, you sign up to the subscription, and get a single delivery each month featuring a number of issues. Each die-cast vehicle is accompanied by a twelve page magazine that features the history of the included model, with diagrams and illustrations of each featured vessel and vehicle. Additionally, we get to learn about the pilots and crew members with official pictures from the Lucasfilm Image Archive. The final part of each issue features details of other similar vessels as well as other configurations.

The first shipment, available for just £10.99, includes two issues of Star Wars: Starships & Vehicles focusing on the Millennium Falcon and the TIE Advanced x1. Each die-cast vehicle is shipped in a cardboard outer and comes complete with a small plastic stand and base. Taking a look inside the magazine’s first issue featuring the Millennium Falcon, we get to learn about the Corellian light freighter, model YT-1300, and how it became a legendary symbol of the Rebel Alliance and the Resistance. Facts, figures and diagrams break down the vessel’s main components and show us the modifications each owner made. We get to read about the vehicles’ main pilots including Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, and Rey. Finally, we look at the Falcon when owned by Lando Calrisssian and just how different it was from the vessel we first saw on screen at docking bay 94 in Mos Eisley.

The second shipment, costing £18.00, features Poe Dameron’s X-wing: Black One and the Imperial Star Destroyer, whilst from the third shipment onwards you will get three issues of Star Wars: Starships & Vehicles at the regular price of £17.99 per issue.

Each issue has something for everyone — for the casual fan, for those new to the Saga who want to learn more, and even for those who have read every word published and seen everything on screen, who will still find a nugget or two they didn’t previously know. Like all Fanhome publications, the content is well written and researched, with access and details from the entire Lucasfilm archives.

The first two issues of the magazine, featuring the Millennium Falcon and TIE Advanced X1,  are available at the exclusive introductory price of just £10.99, showcasing the high quality  of the die-cast vehicles and accompanying magazine available as part of the Star Wars: Starships & Vehicles collection. If you do choose to subscribe, you will benefit from a couple of free gifts including Rey’s Speeder from The Force Awakens and Luke’s Landspeeder from A New Hope, delivered to your door at various stages of your subscription.
