Electronic design and development supervisor Matt Denton is the tenth guest confirmed as attending Thank the Maker, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, at St Swithun’s School in Winchester, Hampshire on October 17th, 2026.
Matt joins previously announced guests including ILM visual effects professional Claudio Bassi, vice president of visual effects at Lucasfilm TJ Falls, Andor’s lead graphic designer Barry Gingell, Andor’s season 2 graphic designer Tereza Hudkova, Andor’s visual effects supervisor Scott Pritchard, graphics designer Dominic Sikking, Lucasfilm’s vice president of physical production Adam Teeuw, hand props and weapons painter Rut Villamagna and property master Jamie Wilkinson.

Matt Denton is an Electronic Design and Development Supervisor renowned for his work in robotics and practical effects across major film productions. With a background in animatronics and engineering, Denton has played a key role in bringing some of cinema’s most beloved on-screen characters to life through innovative mechanical and electronic design.
He is best known for his work on the Star Wars sequel trilogy, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), where he was instrumental in the development and realisation of BB-8, one of the franchise’s most iconic droids. His contributions helped redefine the use of practical robotics in modern filmmaking, seamlessly blending physical performance with digital techniques.
Denton’s credits also include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), where his expertise supported the creation and integration of complex practical elements within the film’s grounded, war-time aesthetic. Across his career, he has worked closely with directors, creature effects teams, and visual effects departments to ensure that robotic and animatronic elements perform convincingly on screen.
Known for combining engineering precision with creative problem-solving, Matt Denton continues to be at the forefront of practical effects innovation in film and television, helping to push the boundaries of what can be achieved through real-world mechanics.
