Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion version of Pinocchio for Netflix will feature Ewan McGregor voicing the beloved insect, Jiminy Cricket.
The Star Wars actor dialed in for a virtual Q&A with ACE Universe recently, where he confirmed the news.
“That I had started working on before I left for New York,” Ewan explained. “So some of that is recorded.”
He continued: “It’s stop-frame animation so it’s going to take them a great long time to make that film. But my first part of that, which is recording his dialogue, is sort of done.
“There may or may not be a song that needs to be recorded,” he then teased. “I’m not sure that I’m at liberty to discuss that.”
As fans of the original Disney animation (released 80 years ago!) will remember, Cliff Edwards’ Jiminy performed the magical song ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’, so it’ll be fascinating to hear what McGregor has to sing in this new take on the classic story.
