Whilst the box office news from China may be dismal, we predicted that by the end of the weekend The Last Jedi may just have enough Force to overtake Beauty and the Beast to break into the top 10 all time box office — and according to Box Office Mojo it beat it by over $5.5 million, to total $1.265 billion!
The Last Jedi now sits in 10th, just $7.5 million behind Frozen sitting at number nine, and there should be no reason that it won’t move up to beat Frozen at some point this week.
Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi dipped even more than expected after losing 1,142 locations this weekend, down 52.5% and finishing with an estimated $11.27 million for the three-day. The film is expected to bring in ~$14.7 million for the four-day pushing its domestic cume just shy of $595 million. Additionally, with an estimated $19 million internationally the film’s worldwide cume climbs to $1.265 billion, passing Beauty and the Beast to become the tenth largest worldwide release of all-time.
To reach 8th position on the chart, currently held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 with $1,341.5 billion, The Last Jedi needs a further $65 million worldwide which may just be doable.
